Are You Never More Than 6 Feet From A Rat?

There’s an old adage that goes, “You are never more than six feet away from a rat!”. Is this true? Where this expression originates isn’t clear but never fails to raise a suitably shocked reaction.

There are suggestions that this claim originated from the Ministry of Agriculture here in the UK as at one time they circulated many public health announcements to promote hygiene in homes.
